A Scene from Everyday Life:

You log in to your favorite social media platform.

In your feed, you come across several posts from your friends, including:

  • A series of artistic photographs.
  • A poem.
  • A video.

Behind each of these posts is someone who has decided to show others what they have created.

Showing others what we have created is a way of opening up to them. For some people, making that decision means overcoming hesitation. For others, it comes naturally. Either way, something that was once personal becomes accessible to the eyes and interpretations of others.

Sometimes, people even decide to publish creations they made years ago: a poem long kept in a notebook, a painting left in a studio, or photographs forgotten in an album. These creations, sometimes known only to their creators or a few people close to them, can now be shared with others.

For a long time, reaching a broad audience with a creative work often meant going through a publisher, gallery, media outlet, or cultural institution. These avenues still exist, but the Web has opened up new possibilities. People can now take the initiative to publish their creations directly, without waiting for an institution to select them. This freedom to publish independently gives greater autonomy to those who create professionally, out of passion, or simply for pleasure.

Around the world, people are taking the initiative to share their creations on social media, in discussion groups, on blogs, or on personal websites. Each does so in their own way, for their own reasons.

What may seem like an ordinary individual act takes on a different dimension when we consider how often it is repeated around the world. People from different countries and cultures choose to show others what they have created. Together, these initiatives are helping transform cultural practices and contribute to the formation of a networked global culture made up of countless forms of human expression.

Daring to publish what we have created means opening up a part of ourselves to others and contributing, in our own way, to human culture in our digital world.
